YOGA CLASSES

In these HATHA/RAJA YOGA classes, you will learn the physical postures or “asanas” which provide a rich range of low to no-impact physical exercises to help balance the body’s vital functions, boost energy and regain youthful flexibility.

Yoga breathing techniques improve lung capacity, increase the prana (life force) in the body and calm the mind and spirit.

PLEASE NOTE:  NO YOGA CLASSES MEET DURING UNSAFE WEATHER CONDITIONS. CALL NANCY LISS at (217) 347-9678 with questions.

The Eight Limbs or Stages of Yoga:

1.  Yamas

Universal moral commandments or ethical disciplines transcending creeds, countries, age and time; adjusting attitudes, non-violence, truth, non-stealing, non-coveting.

2.  Niyamas

Self purification by discipline, observances, religious or other personal sacred practice.

3.  Asanas

Postures for a healthy body and harmony with nature.

4.  Pranayama

Rhythmic control of breath, thereby control of the mind.

5.  Pratyahara

Control of senses, withdrawal and emancipation of the mind from the domination of the senses and exterior sensual objects.

6.  Dharana

     Concentration or complete attention, inward-facing.

7.  Dhyana

     Meditation, concentration.

8.  Samadhi

A state of oneness with object of one's meditation, the Supreme Spirit pervading the Universe, a feeling of unutterable joy and peace. Super-consciousness, innermost recesses of the soul. The Yogi doesn't look heavenward to find God but looks within. The quest for the soul. Liberation, oneness with God. Nirvana.

GENTLE YOGA CLASSES BEING HELD

Gentle Yoga classes are on Mondays, 9:30-10:30 AM in suite 226 of the Lincoln Land building,  South 4th street Effingham, across from the Hendelmeyer Ron Diehl center where my classes were previously held.

Students should enter the double glass doors on the North and take the stairs or the elevator to the second floor, suite #226.  This is a beautiful studio, with a clean, carpeted floor, and students remove their shoes at the door, making our space more sacred for yoga practice.

Gentle Yoga is designed for seniors, people with limited range of motion and anyone who wants to experience yoga but at a slower, less challenging way. Besides yoga sticky mats, students should bring a blanket and a pillow. This class will focus on stretching, gentle poses, breathing and relaxation techniques, incorporating music and aromatherapy to enhance the benefits of yoga.

Gentle Yoga is for any age and any body.  If your body doesn't move the way it used to, and you want to stay flexible and strong, this class is for you.

For more information about this new class, you can reach Nancy at (217) 347-9678 or (217) 342-2458 or email at liveyoga2@consolidated.net
